APOSTLE M. RUSSELL BALLARD

Talk Given on 11/13/98 at Minges Coliseum, North Carolina

Note: The opening hymn was LDS hymn #27 titled "Praise to the Man" which glorifies Joseph Smith. One of the closing LDS hymns was "We Thank Thee, O God, For A Prophet."

Apostle Ballard testified that the Savior organized his church by calling Apostles, to give direction and guidance.

Correction: Russell Ballard is not God.

Isaiah 28:29 This also comes from the LORD of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance.

John 16:13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come."

Apostle Ballard told the audience that the church that was established by the Lord was taken from the earth and that in order for it to come back to the earth there had to be a restoration.

Correction: The true universal church has always been on the earth since Pentecost.

Matthew 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

He then explained that the Holy Aaronic Priesthood was restored to the earth by John the Baptist.

Correction: John the Baptist never served with the Aaronic Priesthood in Jerusalem.

Luke 1:80 So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

Note: God did away with the Aaronic Priesthood forever.

Hebrews 7:11-12 Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

He then described how the Melchizedek Priesthood was restored by Peter, James, and John.

Correction: There was only one priest after the order of Melchizedek namely Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 7:20-22 And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: "The LORD has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek'"), by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

Apostle Ballard said these priesthoods gave men the blessings of heaven and that this church does not sway with every religious wind that blows.

Correction: Jesus Christ gives true Christians the blessings of heaven.

Hebrews 8:1-2 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, Who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

He testified that the doctrinal truths had been revealed to us by the Lord and that under the keys that the prophet holds, the work of salvation is carried on.

Correction: Salvation is only through Jesus Christ by sincere confession.

Matthew 16:16-17 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."

Romans 10:8-10 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

Apostle Ballard taught that we need to share the gospel with everyone, fellowship with new members helping them realize the truth of the church and helping them enter into the temple.

Correction: The gospel is about Jesus Christ not a church and its temples.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you; unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

Correction: Jesus Christ is the truth not a church and its temples.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Apostle Ballard explained that our temples are for ordinances under the priesthood and it is there that we receive knowledge.

Correction: Godly knowledge is found in God not necessarily in a building.

Colossians 2:1-3 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Apostle Ballard closed by giving a blessing that the peace of the Lord will be in our hearts and homes. He hoped that we would work harder to bring more Children of God into the light.

Correction: A person must ask or receive Jesus Christ into their life to become a child of God.

John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Note: Jesus Christ is the light not a church and its temples.

John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
