The Doctrine and Covenants
Section 4
Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to his father, Joseph Smith Sr., at Harmony, Pennsylvania, February 1829.
1–4, Valiant service saves the Lord’s ministers; 5–6, Godly attributes
qualify them for the ministry; 7, The things of God must be sought
after.
1 Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
Note: Book of Mormon is not a marvelous work.
Critics argue that the Book of Mormon faces major problems involving
historical authenticity, anachronisms, linguistic issues, and its 19th
century origins, noting conflicts with archaeological and scientific
evidence as well as similarities to contemporary sources. Google AI
2 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve
him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand
blameless before God at the last day.
Note: Believers will put God before money.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love
the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24
3 Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;
Note: The work of God is believing in Jesus Christ.
Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of
God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that
you believe in Him whom He sent.” John 6:28-29
4 For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that
thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store
that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;

Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the
harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the
fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps
receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who
sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. John 4:35-36
5 And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.
Note: The glory of God glorifies Jesus Christ not a bogus book.
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and
her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil
and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Therefore, the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You
love is sick.” When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not
unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be
glorified through it.” John 11:1-4
6 Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.
Note: Believers will have evidence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against
such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the
flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us
also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one
another, envying one another. Galatians 5:22-26
7 Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
