BOOK OF MORMON

1 NEPHI INTRODUCTION

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Mormons have distinguished themselves from Christians principally through the addition of other writings as Scripture apart from the Holy Bible. The cornerstone book of their faith is called the Book of Mormon. The prophet of Mormonism, Joseph Smith states: "I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book." Thus, Mormonism places the BOM ahead of the Holy Bible in importance per the 1981 edition of the BOM Introduction.

The Mormons in trying to past themselves off as another Christian denomination, have downplayed their distinctiveness from Christendom. However, once Mormon missionaries have been allowed into your home, they will begin preaching the merits of the BOM after their second visit. They will ask you to ponder the "truths" of the BOM in your heart and to ask God if the book is true. They give assurances that God will give you a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Spirit. These Mormon assurances are proclaimed in the BOM introduction and Moroni 10:3-5. Thus, the Mormon testimony is centered on a book, prophet, and church instead of Jesus Christ.

In contrast, the Christian testimony is centered on Jesus Christ instead of a church, prophet, or a book. Jesus Christ said: "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 10:32) The apostle Paul wrote: "But what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.'" (Romans 10:8-11)

This book was written to clearly show the plagiarism, errors, and fallacies of the "most correct of any book on earth" and the cornerstone of Mormonism. Additionally, it is my hope that Mormons will continue to leave the LDS church and invite Jesus Christ to come into their lives. Thus, with these two objectives in mind this book was written to counter the heresies and family marketing ploys of the LDS church.
