Living Waters
1) In the beginning, God created living waters, and it was good.
Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living
creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the
firmament of the heavens.” So, God created great sea creatures and
every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded,
according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be
fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds
multiply on the earth.” So, the evening and the morning were the fifth
day. Genesis 1:20-23
2) The LORD (Yahweh) is the source of the fountain of living waters.
Has a nation changed its gods, which are not gods? But My people have
changed their Glory for what does not profit. Be astonished, O heavens,
at this, and be horribly afraid; Be very desolate,” says the LORD. “For
My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain
of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can
hold no water.” Jeremiah 2:11-13
3) In the future, God will redeem the nation of Israel from all sin.
“Therefore, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “I do
not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s
sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went. And
I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the
nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall
know that I am the LORD,” says the Lord GOD, “when I am hallowed in you
before their eyes. For I will take you from among the nations, gather
you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. Then I will
sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you
from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new
heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone
out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit
within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My
judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to
your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. I will
deliver you from all your uncleannesses.” Ezekiel 36:22-29
4) During the Millennium, living waters will flow from the throne of God.
Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water,
flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the
front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the
right side of the temple, south of the altar. He brought me out by way
of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer
gateway that faces east; and there was water running out on the right
side. And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand,
he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters;
the water came up to my ankles. Again, he measured one thousand and
brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again, he
measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my
waist. Again, he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could
not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a
river that could not be crossed. He said to me, “Son of man, have you
seen this?” Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the
river. When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very
many trees on one side and the other. Then he said to me: “This water
flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters
the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall
be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will
live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these
waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live
wherever the river goes. It shall be that fishermen will stand by it
from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their
nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great
Sea, exceedingly many. But its swamps and marshes will not be healed;
they will be given over to salt. Along the bank of the river, on this
side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves
will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit
every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit
will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.” Ezekiel 47:1-12
And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from
Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward
the western sea; In both summer and winter it shall occur. Zechariah
14:8
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its
street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which
bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The
leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall
be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it,
and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name
shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need
no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And
they shall reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:1-5
5) Believers will be led by Jesus Christ to eternal living waters.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in
green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my
soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they
comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness
and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in
the house of the LORD Forever. Psalms 23
Thus says the LORD: “In an acceptable time I have heard You, and in the
day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give You as
a covenant to the people, to restore the earth, to cause them to
inherit the desolate heritages; That You may say to the prisoners, ‘Go
forth,’ To those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ “They shall
feed along the roads, and their pastures shall be on all desolate
heights. They shall neither hunger nor thirst, neither heat nor sun
shall strike them; For He who has mercy on them will lead them, even by
the springs of water He will guide them. Isaiah 49:8-10
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one
could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with
palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying,
“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four
living creatures and fell on their faces before the throne and
worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and
ever. Amen.” Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are
these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?” And I said
to him, “Sir, you know.” So, he said to me, “These are the ones who
come out of the great tribulation and washed their robes and made them
white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne
of God and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on
the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor
thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the
Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them
to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from
their eyes.” Revelation 7:9-17
6) Jesus Christ gives living waters of salvation to whoever comes to Him.
So, He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot
of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was
there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by
the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw
water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone
away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him,
“How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan
woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and
said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to
you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have
given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing
to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living
water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and
drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus
answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst
again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never
thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a
fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said
to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here
to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her,
“You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five
husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that
you spoke truly.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are
a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say
that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said
to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on
this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what
you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.
But the hour is coming, and now is when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such
to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship
in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is
coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all
things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” John 4:5-26
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me
shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I
said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. All that the
Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by
no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own
will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father
who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing but
should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who
sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have
everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:35-40
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried
out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow
rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom
those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet
given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39
7) Living waters of salvation is free to whoever comes to Jesus Christ.
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no
money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without and
without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your
wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what
is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your
ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an
everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David. Indeed, I have given him as a witness to the
people, a leader and commander for the people. Surely you shall call a
nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to
you, because of the LORD your God, and the Holy One of Israel; For He
has glorified you.” Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him
while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on
him; And to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. For My thoughts are
not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. For as
the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your
ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down,
and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth,
and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and
bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please,
and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. for you shall go
out with joy and be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills
shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the
field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the
cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree;
And it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that
shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the
first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John,
saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice
from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He
will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be
with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from
their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There
shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He
who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He
said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said
to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the
End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who
thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his
God and he shall be My son. Revelation 21:1-7
“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to
everyone according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” Blessed are those who
do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life
and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and
sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever
loves and practices a lie. “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to
you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of
David, the Bright and Morning Star.” And the Spirit and the bride say,
“Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts
come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
