Pouring Out of Damnation, Salvation, and Service
Note: Ignoring the word of God will result in the wrath of God being poured out.
Thus, it happened when the king heard the words of the Law that he tore
his clothes. Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of
Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a
servant of the king, saying, “Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for
those who are left in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the
book that is found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured
out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to
do according to all that is written in this book.” 2 Chronicles 34:19-21
“Therefore, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer
for them, nor make intercession to Me; for I will not hear you. Do you
not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of
Jerusalem? The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and
the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they
pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to
anger. Do they provoke Me to anger?” says the LORD. “Do they not
provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?”
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, My anger and My fury will be
poured out on this place—on man and on beast, on the trees of the field
and on the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and not be quenched.”
Jeremiah 7:16-20
The LORD has fulfilled His fury; He has poured out His fierce anger. He kindled a fire in Zion,
And it has devoured its foundations. Lamentations 4:11
Therefore, I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed
them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on
their own heads,” says the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 22:31
“O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and
our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God
belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him. We
have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws,
which He set before us by His servants the prophets. Yes, all Israel
has transgressed Your law and has departed so as not to obey Your
voice; therefore, the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses
the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned
against Him.” Daniel 9:8-11
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the
kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do
you allow those who are entering to go in. Woe to you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a
pretense make long prayers. Therefore, you will receive greater
condemnation. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make
him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Woe to you, blind
guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but
whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’
Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that
sanctifies the gold? And ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing;
but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform
it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that
sanctifies the gift? Therefore, he who swears by the altar, swears by
it and by all things on it. He who swears by the temple, swears by it
and by Him who dwells in it. And he who swears by heaven, swears by the
throne of God and by Him who sits on it. Woe to you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin
and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy
and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others
undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! Woe to
you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of
the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and
self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup
and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe to you,
scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs
which indeed appear beautiful outwardly but inside are full of dead
men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear
righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the
tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and
say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have
been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’ Therefore, you
are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who
murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your father’s
guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation
of hell?” Matthew 23:13-33
Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone
worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead
or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of
God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.
He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the
holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their
torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night,
who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of
his name.” Revelation 14:9-11
Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on
him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and
makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were
many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He
was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The
Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and
clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp
sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will
rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the
fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His
thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation
19:11-16
Note: Blood is life and was the perfect sacrifice for sin.
But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely
for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every
beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of
every man’s brother I will require the life of man. “Whoever sheds
man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He
made man.” Genesis 9:4-6
So, Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all
the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said,
“All the words which the LORD has said we will do.” And Moses wrote all
the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning and built an
altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the
twelve tribes of Israel. Then he sent young men of the children of
Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of
oxen to the LORD. And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins,
and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. Then he took the Book of
the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All
that the LORD has said we will do and be obedient.” And Moses took the
blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the
covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these
words.” Exodus 24:3-8
And he brought the bull for the sin offering. Then Aaron and his sons
laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering, and
Moses killed it. Then he took the blood and put some on the horns of
the altar all around with his finger and purified the altar. And he
poured the blood at the base of the altar, and consecrated it, to make
atonement for it. Leviticus 8:14-15
But the firstborn of a cow, the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn
of a goat you shall not redeem; they are holy. You shall sprinkle their
blood on the altar and burn their fat as an offering made by fire for a
sweet aroma to the LORD. Numbers 18:17
Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for blood is life; you may
not eat the life with the meat. You shall not eat it; you shall pour it
on the earth like water. You shall not eat it, that it may go well with
you and your children after you, when you do what is right in the sight
of the LORD. Only the holy things which you have, and your vowed
offerings, you shall take and go to the place which the LORD chooses.
And you shall offer your burnt offerings, the meat and the blood, on
the altar of the LORD your God; and the blood of your sacrifices shall
be poured out on the altar of the LORD your God, and you shall eat the
meat. Deuteronomy 12:23-27
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
“Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I
will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day
when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26:27-29
Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them,
and they all drank from it. And He said to them, “This is My blood of
the new covenant, which is shed for many. Assuredly, I say to you, I
will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I
drink it new in the kingdom of God.” Mark 14:23-25
Likewise, He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the
new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:20
For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for
the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps
for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His
own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died
for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we
shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies, we
were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having
been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:6-10
Note: Jesus Christ’s life was poured out for our salvation on the cross.
I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint; My heart
is like wax; It has melted within Me. My strength is dried up like a
potsherd, and My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the
dust of death. For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the
wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count
all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among
them, and for My clothing they cast lots. Psalms 22:14-18
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When
You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall
prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His
hand. He shall see the labor of His soul and be satisfied. By His
knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear
their iniquities. Therefore, I will divide Him a portion with the
great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured
out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors,
and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the
transgressors. Isaiah 53:10-12
Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that
it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My
garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” Sitting down,
they kept watch over Him there. And they put up over His head the
accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another
on the left. And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their
heads and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three
days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the
cross.” Likewise, the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and
elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the
King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will
believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have
Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” Matthew 27:35-43
Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. And the inscription
of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS. With Him
they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His
left. So, the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered
with the transgressors.” And those who passed by blasphemed Him,
wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and
build it in three days, save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”
Likewise, the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the
scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. Let the
Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see
and believe.” Mark 15:25-32
There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.
And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they
crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other
on the left. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not
know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots. And
the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered,
saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the
chosen of God.” The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him
sour wine, and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save
Yourself.” And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of
Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Luke 23:32-38
And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a
Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him,
and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was:
JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then many of the Jews read
this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city;
and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Therefore, the chief
priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the
Jews,’ but ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.”’” Pilate answered,
“What I have written, I have written.” Then the soldiers, when they had
crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier
a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from
the top in one piece. They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not
tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture
might be fulfilled which says: “They divided My garments among them,
and for My clothing they cast lots.” Therefore, the soldiers did these
things. John 19:17-24
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not
with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no
effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it
is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing
the understanding of the prudent.” Where is the wise? Where is the
scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the
wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world
through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness
of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a
sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to
the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those
who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the
wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:17-24
Note: God will pour out the Holy Spirit on saved peoples.
“Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Now I will bring back the captives
of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be
jealous for My holy name— after they have borne their shame, and all
their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, when they
dwelt safely in their own land and no one made them afraid. When I have
brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their
enemies’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations,
then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into
captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land,
and left none of them captive any longer. And I will not hide My face
from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house
of Israel,’ says the Lord GOD.” Ezekiel 39:25-29
“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on
all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also, on My
menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those
days.” Joel 2:28-29
“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David,
that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath
to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would
raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke
concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left
in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. This Jesus God has raised
up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore, being exalted to the
right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of
the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts
2:29-33
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon
all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who
believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift
of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. Acts
10:44-45
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by
faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the
glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations,
knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance,
character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because
the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit
who was given to us. Romans 5:1-5
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man
appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration
and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly
through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His
grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:4-7
Note: Are you pouring out your life in service to God?
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which
is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is
that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly
clothed, and beaten, and homeless. And we labor, working with our own
hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; being
defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the
offscouring of all things until now. 1 Corinthians 4:11-13
Are they ministers of Christ? —I speak as a fool—I am more: in labors
more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in
deaths often. From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus
one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times
I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in
journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of
my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in
perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false
brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— besides the other
things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
2 Corinthians 11:23-28
Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice
and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. For the
same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me. Philippians 2:17-18
I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is
lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which
is the church, of which I became a minister according to the
stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word
of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from
generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. Colossians 1:24-26
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of
my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished
the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the
crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give
to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved
His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
